Description

The Healthy Kids Clinic is a school-based health program in Fayette County, Kentucky that offers access to free health care in high-poverty schools. There are currently four Healthy Kids Clinics in Fayette County schools. The health centers provide free access to medical services such as physical exams, immunizations, dental care, mental health services, and acute care for chronic conditions including diabetes and asthma. The clinic also offers health education for parents and students. The program uses a comprehensive approach in solving health problems, involving students, parents and teachers in order to make clear the link between health and classroom issues. The program is run by the Fayette County Health Department with assistance and support from the University of Kentucky Pediatrics and the University of Kentucky Colleges of Nursing and Dentistry. The mental health services are provided on-site by Bluegrass Comprehensive Care.

Goal / Mission

The goal of the Healthy Kids Clinics is to provide access to free health care to children in high-poverty schools in Fayette County.

Results / Accomplishments

There are currently four health centers that serve over 1,000 children. The Healthy Kids Clinics have also resulted in increased school attendance and a decrease in emergency room visits.
