An Effective Practice
Description
Developing supportive housing for homeless individuals with behavioral or health problems is one of the greater challenges faced by city governments and nonprofit agencies. SteppingStone Place represents a unique effort by two nonprofit agencies, Mercy Housing Arizona and Native American Connections, Inc., to take on this challenge. These two nonprofit agencies combined their resources and expertise to acquire an historic property and transform it into a supportive housing facility for two homeless populations.
Goal / Mission
The goal of this program is to provide supportive housing for homeless people living with HIV/AIDS and/or substance abuse problems.
Results / Accomplishments
The result of this partnership is an attractive, 44 unit housing campus that will serve homeless individuals living with HIV/AIDS and/or substance abuse problems. The City of Phoenix was integral to the success of the SteppingStone Place development in the areas of funding and technical staff support.
