Rebuild Resources

A Good Idea

Description

Rebuild Resources provides entry-level employment opportunities in a safe, sober, supportive, and non-enabling environment for individuals recovering from substance abuse. The nonprofit organization runs a custom apparel and promotional merchandise business, as well as a contract manufacturing business. Participants work at Rebuild for three to six months while completing treatment and living in halfway houses, learning fundamental job skills in fields such as screen printing, graphic design, and woodworking. Recovering adults who complete the program earn a valuable work reference for permanent employment applications outside the organization.

Rebuild Resources aims to fund 80% of its budget with business revenues and 20% from individual, foundation, and community organization donations.

Goal / Mission

The mission of Rebuild Resources is to help addicts and alcoholics be sober, self-sufficient and of service by providing meaningful, transitional employment in business enterprises we own and operate.

Results / Accomplishments

Over 1,000 recovering men and women have graduated from Rebuild since 1984. The success rate of graduates, measured as at least five years of continual sobriety and employment, is 68%. While nearly three-quarters of graduates are employed full-time, two-thirds also continue to be involved with community support services to maintain their sobriety. It is estimated that the savings to taxpayers is $400,000 for each successful graduate.
